The Combat system of Chestnut rests on various pieces of equipment that players can equip to increase their combat performance. In Chestnut, the only way to permanently increase your character stats is through equipment.

These pieces of equipment are currently in-game assets but will eventually be converted to on-chain NFTs, the Chestnut NFT Collection.

The Chestnut NFTs will provide the following benefits:

  • Better survivability and more kills in combat

  • Aesthetic customization of your character

  • Status symbols through rare and high-level pieces of equipment

Economically, Chestnut NFTs will derive their value from two main aspects:

  • In-game utility: powerful equipment will directly translate into higher crypto gains (by ranking higher on the daily leaderboards or during Gauntlet events) and will therefore constitute a profitable investment

  • Rising intrinsic value: the growth of the community will increase the demand for NFTs that exist in a limited number or that have been leveled up over long periods of time

Rarity

The Chestnut NFTs will distributed across 5 rarity categories which determine the amount of copies minted for each item:

  • Novice: 100 of each

  • Vanguard: 50 of each

  • Elite: 20 of each

  • Zenith: 5 of each

  • Apex: 1 of each

Rarity categories also correlate with the in-game value of the items; the more rare, the more powerful the in-game benefits.

Distribution

The distribution of the collection will take place according to the following roadmap. See Roadmap for more information about the timeline.

Phase 0

A subset of the entire collection will be first created off-chain, and distributed in the game in 3 ways:

  • Airdrops to active community members

  • In-game rewards during events

  • Sales in the in-game shop

This step is crucial as it will allow us to experiment with item characteristics and balance and converge towards well-balanced mechanics. This will also allow players to get a better idea of what to expect, and even possibly start to work out some price discovery.

Ownership of a β€œweb2” copy of an item will be redeemable for the corresponding NFT upon minting.

This phase should last a few weeks.

Phase 1

The entire collection will be minted and distributed to the community on the Mumbai testnet to allow testing the auction process and the technical implementation of the interactions between the smart contract and the game engine.

NFTs minted during this phase will be testnet NFTs with no real value; they will not be bridged to Polygon or redeemed in any other way. As such, they will be distributed for free, either as direct airdrops or as in-game rewards.

This phase should last one or two weeks.

Phase 2

Most of the entire collection will be auctioned to the community. A few copies of some select pieces will be kept as special rewards.

Active community members who earned the right for a Chestnut NFT by reaching the Tree Elder role on Discord (see Community) will also receive their rewards at that point, just before the auction.

Remaining copies after the initial auction will be distributed over time as community rewards, in-game rewards or sold in the in-game shop.

Chestnut NFTs will be minted to support every category, and items of each category will be minted for all 5 rarity levels.
